Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)

Trenchless technology solution for precise underground utility installation with minimal surface disruption, ideal for crossing roads, waterways, and congested areas.

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)

○ The latest advanced technology for non-disruptive installation of single or multiple ducts for cables (electric, fiber-optic, and telephone)

○ We drill HDPE pipes from 90 mm diameter to 630 mm diameter, and lengths up to 200 m.

Horizontal Thrust Boring

○ From 4-inch to 54-inch diameter pipes, for all types of services and utilities

○ This method is ideal for
   • Water.
   • Gas.
   • Oil.
   • Electric.
   • Telephone.
   • Sewage lines under Asphalt Roads.
   • Railway tracks.
   • Airport runways.

HDD Technology

○ This division of our company provides innovative technology used for the trenchless installation of pipes and cables.
○ Gentle technology that uses a drilling suspension and reduces difficulties associated with open-cut trenching.
○ Minimizes the ripping up of streets and pavements.
○ Reduces stress, mass, noise, and traffic congestion.

The Process Generally Includes Seven Distinct Phases

  • Planning and preliminary survey for the length.
  • Check for other services underground (Telephone line, water pipe, sewage pipes, electricity line, etc.).
  • Check the soil condition of the horizontal drilling (Rocky, Sandy, Mix, etc.).
  • Select the drilling unit and tools to suit the soil type.
  • Drill a small pilot borehole to allow the drill to be steered and tracked from the surface.
  • Enlarge the hole by pulling back increasingly large reamers.
  • Pull in the pipe.

Testing & Commissioning

Testing and commissioning will be handled by a technical team to execute projects ranging from:

  • Small-sized crossings for cables, sheath water pipes, or gas pipelines.
  • Up to large-scale crossings, with sizes expanded to meet all demands (a maximum diameter of 1,100 mm for steel pipes and a depth of up to 100 m).
  • A distance of up to 800 m for a single crossing.

The Team

The HDD team consists of :

  • Several trained technical workers
  • 5 technical engineers
  • Qualified licensed technicians from our own team
  • On field workers.

    ○  The team has executed, managed, and supervised more than 100 HDD crossings in KSA.

HDD Methodology

This installation technology uses an inclined drill to steer along the predetermined bore path using an electronic tracker and tracking code.

• HDD is a quick, precise, and cost-effective solution for pipeline installation (e.g., oil & gas pipelines, water lines, and optical fiber cables).
• No need for an open trench.
• Requires less material for backfill.
• Lower restoration costs.

Ramming System

• The Ramming System is used for digging to help install a steel sleeve and casing for utility works.
• It is used in short crossings like roads and railways, and is great for narrow-margin projects.
